Back to school in 2020 is looking a little different. For some classes are going to be held outside for as much and as long possible. If your school is going outside this year and your kid is attending, here are some essential supplies you might need.
Pack Some Sunscreen
If your child is going to be outside during the entire school day – that’s a lot of sun exposure.
So make sure you layer that sunscreen on them before they head out for school. Apply generously to any part of their head and body that is exposed to the sun. The recommendation on how much to apply is about 1 ounce — or enough to fill a shot glass — to cover the whole body.
And don’t forget to remind them to reapply that sunblock at least every two hours. The worst would be to come home from school with a sunburn…ouch!
Also tell your children to look out for and choose shaded spots during the day.
Layer It Up
It’s important that kids are also well prepared for different temps throughout the day. The mornings are usually cooler and the afternoons hotter. So it’s always good to layer up or pack some extra layers.
Also layering is good (weather permitting) to prevent sun exposure – think long sleeves, long pants, hats, gloves, sunglasses, etc. And of course layering is key as the weather gets colder.
Water, Water, Water
The sun dehydrates us so make sure your kids remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. Make sure you add some water in their back packs and lunch boxes.
Back To School
So think of outdoor school this year like summer camp. It’s the same essentials your kids bring there – sunscreen, layers, and water.
