There is a right and a wrong way to wash your face. And how you clean your face actually makes a difference in your appearance. Fortunately, we have a list of the right way to do things to keep your skin glowing and healthy.

Below is list of recommendations from dermatologists by way of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Be Gentle

Your skin is your bodies first layer of protection. It has a big job. So be kind to it. Try and avoid abrasive cleansers or cleansers that include alcohol. Opt for gentle cleansers.

If you need recommendations, we just might have one for you Laughing. Check out our Organic Purifying Facial Cleanser that is non-abrasive and uses non-toxic organic and natural ingredients.

Your Fingers Are Best

A good tip when washing is to wet your face first and then use your fingertips to apply a cleanser.

Try to avoid using mesh sponges, wash cloths, or anything harsh that might irritate your skin. Your fingertips are the top choice and hey, they’re free.

Don’t scrub your skin as scrubbing can irritate it.

Avoid Hot Water

I know I love the feeling of hot water on a cold day but it’s not good for the skin. Lukewarm water is actually best.

Then, after you’re done, pat your skin dry with a soft towel.

Apply Moisturizer

Also, definitely apply a moisturizer after washing your face. Why? Well, the best time to apply a moisturizer is on damp skin because it locks in moisture.

Don’t Over Wash

At most you need to wash your skin two times a day. Now, if you happen to exercise or do something else that gets you sweaty, you could consider a third time. Sweat can clog pores so it’s good to clean up or at splash your face with a little water but I still would err on the side of not overdoing it. As far as when to do it, many dermatologists recommend washing your face once in the morning and once at night.

Pretty simple and beyond the necessary can be too much for your skin as it can cause the skin to dry out or become irritated.
