Yes it’s possible to reduce the signs of aging. And it doesn’t have to be a ridiculous process or outrageously expensive. It can be simple – just follow these easy steps recommended by dermatologists. Your skin and bank account will thank us!
Below are tried and true tips from the American Academy of Dermatologists (AAD).
1. Wear Sunscreen Everyday
Ask any dermatologist and sunscreen will be on their anti-aging skin care list. That’s because UV rays from the sun accelerate the signs of aging. According to the Skin Care Foundation the sun causes 90% of skin aging.
So you want the secret to prevent wrinkles, spots, fine lines, and the whole aging shebang – wear sunscreen everyday! Make sure you use a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least an SPF 15 to protect any exposed skin. Our sunscreens and SPF moisturizers are a great example.
2. Don’t Tan
Now that you know the sun causes aging – don’t sit out and tan in the sun (or tan in a tanning booth). A tan isn’t a sign of healthy skin – a tan is a response by your skin to sun damage.
3. Moisturize
According to the AAD when you moisturize it traps water in the skin. This process can help reduce the appearance of some fine lines and make your skin look brighter and younger.
A good time to moisturize is after you wash your face or skin. This timing helps lock in moisture into your skin.
4. Limit Products
Remember when I said this process was simple. It is because dermatologists recommend against using too many products. They actually suggest using only one anti-aging product at a time.
Too many can irritate the skin and make the signs of aging more noticeable. Who knew but know you know.
5. Test Products First
Before you go all in with an anti-aging skin care product do a small patch test. A good place is your inner forearm two times a day for a few days to see if your skin reacts. Once it passes, it should be fine to apply to your face.
6. Use As Directed
If your skin care product has an active ingredient (it’ll be listed under an Active Ingredient section on your product’s Drug Facts label panel) – follow the directions on usage.
Applying too much or incorrectly can cause clogged pores, blotchy skin, or other unwanted side effects.
7. Give It Time
According to the AAD while “moisturizers can immediately plump up fine lines most products take at least 6 weeks to work. Sometimes it can take 3 months.”
So be patient. I of course know that’s easier said than done. But if you’ve been using sunscreen everyday you’re well on your way to ageless skin.
