The last month of summer is almost here and the fun doesn’t stop on Block Island. The party on the Block keeps going through the end of the summer. Check out all the awesome August events below and don't forget to pack some sunscreen.

Block Island Triathlon – August 3

Test your biking, swimming, and running skills in the annual Block Island Triathlon. The tri kicks off at Fred Benson Town Beach with quarter-mile swim at 9AM. Then it’s onto your bike for a 12-mile ride along the island’s western coast. Finally finish off with a 4-mile run along the eastern beaches.

Of course if that sounds too tiring (like it does for me!) – feel free to just watch and enjoy the race with some coffee and donuts. To pre-register for the race visit www.active.com or to find out more about it go to www.new-shoreham.com.

Conserfest – August 4

Live music + conservation – what could be better? Conserfest is an all day concert festival to celebrate conservation efforts on Block Island.

Hear live music from 10:30AM until 8PM at Narragansett Inn. The festival concludes with a special after party at Yellow Kittens at 10PM. This year’s headliners are The Adam Ezra Group.

It’s free to attend the festival but it’s also a good opportunity to donate to Block Island’s conservation efforts. All proceeds benefit the Block Island Conservancy.

Annual Mary D. Ball – August 4

It might be called a ball but don’t expect a stuffy party. It’s family friendly and it’s about having a ball. Feel free to come in your Sunday best or a pair of shorts – it’s all about having fun and supporting the Block Island community.

Mary Donnelly, a retired Block Island nurse for more than 50 years, started the ball to raise money for the Mary D. Fund - a charity that helps year-round Islanders struggling with financial hardship.

The event takes place at The Sullivan House at 7PM where you can enjoy live entertainment, food, and drinks. Tickets are available in advance at $40 or at the door. So come mingle, dance, and support a great cause.

Reggae Fest at Ballard’s – August 12

Want even more live music? Then check out Reggae Fest at Ballard’s. Jam out all day to some of the best island music. Musical acts take the stage at 11:30AM and the beats keep going until 7:30PM.

For more info on the full line-up of bands check out Ballard’s website at www.ballardbi.com.

Annual House and Garden Tour – August 15

See some of the most beautiful manicured houses on Block Island in the 47th Annual Block Island House and Garden Tour benefitting the Block Island Historical Society.

The tours begin at 10AM and run to 2PM and volunteers will be on hand at the homes to provide information and to answer questions.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 day of. It’s a great way to experience some of the most gorgeous architecture, design, and décor that the island has to offer.

Lion’s Club Clambake – August 31

Eat to your heart’s content at the annual Lion’s Club Clambake at the Narragansett Inn. Delight in clams (of course) plus lobsters, mussels, chowder, hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, and more. That’s a whole lot of food.

The Lion’s Cub, a group that does lots of good for the Block Island community all year long, puts on the clambake. So come hungry and enjoy some music, fun, and raffles.
