Mornings are busy. We’re all rushing out the door to make it to work, school drop off, and everywhere in between. Who has time to apply SPF? But we really should. All the experts agree it’s the most important step in a morning skin care routine and something as important as brushing your teeth or that morning cup of coffee. So the next time you run out the door and skip the SPF – think about these 4 reasons why you shouldn’t…

1. Ageless Skin

Fact: you can slow the signs of aging with sun protection. That’s the exact title of a press release from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)! According to dermatologist Dr. Arianne Shadi Kourosh:

“Ultraviolet radiation from the sun and indoor tanning beds not only can increase your risk of skin cancer but also can contribute to skin aging”

You might be thinking “ok the sun will age my skin but I’ll just pick up one of those anti-aging treatments and that’ll fix my skin.” Not so fast as Dr. Kouroush explains:

“Although there have been some impressive strides in anti-aging treatments, no one product or procedure can completely reverse the long-term effects of poor skin care decisions, and protective measures are the cornerstone of good skin care.”

Prevention is easier and cheaper than treatment. Just 2-3 minutes of applying SPF in the morning everyday can lead to lifetime of beautiful skin. As Dr. Kouroush says

“If you want healthy, younger-looking skin, it’s better to prevent now than try to correct later.”

2. No More Dark Spots

You thought your daily SPF would just prevent things like wrinkle and fine lines – it can do more! According to dermatologist Dr. Marnie Nussbaum:

"UVA causes DNA changes in melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells of our body, [and] sunscreen can also protect your skin from developing brown pigmentation or 'sun spots' which aesthetically age the skin.”

Flawless skin for just a few drops of SPF in the morning sounds like a good trade.

3. Prevent Skin Cancer

Unfortunately skin cancer statistics are pretty sobering. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year than all other cancers combined. And one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70.

Fortunately skin cancer is a highly preventable disease. As dermatologist Dr. Fayne Frey so easily explains:

"Daily sunscreen use is the best skin cancer tool short of avoiding direct midday sun exposure altogether.”

So don’t forget that sunblock in the morning, it can save your skin’s life.

4. Added Skin Care Benefits

Sunscreen can really be a super star product. Not only does it fight the signs of aging, prevent skin cancer, and prevent dark spots; it also has other amazing benefits. For example, many also moisturize the skin which is key to keeping skin healthy and supple. A little plug for our Natural Face Moisturizer SPF 30 – it provides broad spectrum sun protection and hydrates the skin.

Additionally dermatologist Dr. Melanie Palm mentions that: “mineral sunscreen agents, for example, are anti-inflammatory and can help to calm irritated skin.” Oh yeah did we mention our sunscreens only use mineral UV filters and specifically zinc oxide which is considered the safest sunblock ingredient.

Some SPF products also include antioxidants that protect against damaging free radicals – antioxidants like green tea, vitamin C and vitamin E. Yup, you guessed it; our sunscreens are packed with all of these ingredients.

Just apply some SPF in the morning and let it do it’s magic.
