Want to own a little piece of Block Island? On November 27th the United States Mint will release a three-coin quarter set featuring Block Island. While they are meant as collectible items, they can actually be used as quarters too. Time to pay for our laundry with a little slice of Block Island.
As for what the set includes, there’s an uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint, an uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint, and a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint. The tail side of each quarter depicts a black-crowned night-heron flying over a view from the beach at Cow Cove looking towards Sandy Point on Block Island.
Sandy Point is one of the many nature preserves on the island. If you’re interested, here’s more on the amazing history of Sandy Point.

Back to the quarters! The US Mint chose Block Island as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters project. It’s a 12-year endeavor where 56 special quarters will be issued depicting our country’s great national parks and sites. Block Island was chosen because it’s also a critical migratory stop for bird.
Ok one quick thing the set isn’t $0.75 – you’ll have to $9.95 for this special edition set even though the actual quarters themselves have a monetary value of $.25 each.
Not sure if this is a limited edition collection but if you want it – make sure you check out the US Mint on November 27th.
