Sweater weather is here. Time to get all cozy and comfy in your sweaters and sip on some hot tea. With autumn in full swing, it’s also time to talk about your skin. Changes in the weather can do skin damage – think dry, itchy skin and eczema. Thankfully we’re here with three key tips to help you easily transition your skin for fall.
Stay Hydrated
The humidity drops and the air is cold in the fall. On top of this, your skin also has to contend with dry radiator heat. Needless to say keeping, your skin hydrated and moisturized is key during this time.
Don’t skimp on your moisturizer in the fall and be sure to drink lots of water. Make sure to moisturize after you cleanse when the skin is damp, as this can help lock in the hydration from your moisturizer.
Invest in a Humidifier
The best investment I made last year was to buy myself a humidifier. My skin thanked me by the spring. We also bought a second one for my daughter’s room and I’m sure it was the humidifier that helped her sensitive baby skin survive without any dry winter patches.
For the best results turn on the humidifier as soon as you turn the heat on.
Save the Sunscreen
Many people pack away the sunscreen along with their swimsuits and swim trunks. But sun damage occurs all year round. The sun is still there in the fall – it doesn’t go away when the summer ends.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation the sun causes “more than 90 percent of the visible signs of aging, which include wrinkles, rough patches, sagging, and skin discoloration.”
Make sunscreen a daily habit no matter the season or use a moisturizer with SPF during colder months – you’ll get hydration + sun protection in one (just make sure it’s also provides broad spectrum protection – it’ll say this on the label and our sun care products are good examples).
