Fiona the Hippo is adored by thousands everyday at the Cincinnati Zoo and she’s become an Instagram star with her own hashtag #teamfiona. So while you might be jealous of her insta fame, her skin care routine is also envious. Fiona’s routine is all natural and it keeps her skin looking fabulous.
Fiona’s Ageless Skin via Blood Sweat
Fiona’s skin stays dewy, moisturized and sun protected all day thanks to a substance her body produces called blood sweat.
Ok, so maybe I was a little dramatic saying that you’d want her skin care routine. I mean I’m sure blood sweat doesn’t sound so pleasant. But who wouldn’t want glowing, sun-protected skin that naturally fights off aging and sun damage!
What’s Blood Sweat?!
Blood Sweat is an oily red substance that acts like a sunscreen, moisturizer, and antiseptic on hippos’ skin. In addition to acting as a sunblock, it actually keeps skin wounds from getting infected by the dirty water Fiona lives in.
What makes the substance red is something called Hipposudoric acid and norhipposudoric acid. Both are made by amino acids – and that’s your science lesson for the day!
More Fun Skin Care and Suncare Facts
Sometimes I think, why couldn’t nature give us some natural sun protection on our skin? But then I guess we wouldn’t want to be walking around with a redish tint on our skin all day (and I can’t imagine bathing in dirty water all day - yuck).
But hey, I’m still a little envious of Fiona. Let me finish by saying Fiona is super cute. She’s definitely worth following online. So if you want to see her great skin and silly antics be sure to visit the Cincinnati Zoo or their Instagram page.
