There’s nothing wrong with a guy wanting healthy and youthful looking skin. Skin care isn’t just for women. And guys, it’s pretty easy and painless to have great skin if you follow these five tips.
1. Wear Sunscreen
The sun doesn’t discriminate by gender, race or ethnicity. UV rays from the sun are the leading cause of premature skin aging and skin damage. The sun definitely speeds the development of fine lines and wrinkles.
But it’s really easy to protect your skin from the sun – why look 60 when you can look 30? Simply wear a broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen or moisturizer everyday and follow these good sun protection measures in our blog "Skin Cancer Awareness - Facts and Prevention".
2. Moisturize
Dry skin can makes us look older because it accentuates our wrinkles so moisturize your skin daily. If you’re short on time in the mornings find a 2-in-1 SPF moisturizer that provides sun protection and keeps your skin hydrated during the day. Then lock in moisture overnight by applying a night cream.
3. Wash Your Face
You only need to do it once a day. Dirt builds-up and can irritate the skin so take a minute everyday to clean your face.
4. Be Kind To Your Skin
Don’t be rough with your skin. You might be inclined to scrub your skin vigorously with soap but that can remove beneficial layers of oil.
Additionally avoid overly hot showers as that can also strip the skin of its natural oils and be very drying. I know, they feel good, so this one can be tough to stick to.
Remember when shaving go with the grain of the skin and use a clean razor with cream or gel.
Finally don’t poke at your face or at least touch it gently with clean hands.
5. Live Healthy
Your skin reflects how you treat your body from the inside. So eat well (think lean proteins, fresh veggies & fruit and few fatty or processed foods), drink lots of water, stay active (exercise) and sleep.
Also smoking is another sure-fire way to make your skin age more rapidly.
Skin Care For All
Frankly all these tips work for men as well as women. Skin care is pretty basic and doesn’t need to be overly complicated. Check out our other skin care fundamentals in our Skin Care or Education blog series.
