This weekend I felt like a kid again. I got to trick or treat for the first time in almost 20 years! Now don't go trying to calculate my age, my young looks do to years of sunscreen use will deceive you. Ha!
Will and I visited my sister, brother-in-law and three nieces for Halloween. It was the most fun Halloween I've had in a long time. Actually, Halloween is my least favorite holiday. Yes, I said it and now it's in writing for everyone to see and for the internet to get mad at me. But this time was different - I had a blast with my nieces and look forward to Halloween again next year with them.
One of the reasons I hate Halloween is because I don't like dressing up. I have a hard time coming up with a costume, end up doing it last minute and overpay at one of those pop-up costume shops. This year I had a 7 year old tell me what to wear which made it so much easier! Likewise, Will had a 10 year old tell him what to wear.
So I was Harry Potter and Will was a minion. We each matched one of my nieces. Will was a yellow minion to my oldest niece's purple minion. I was Harry Potter to my middle niece's Hermione. My youngest niece was Bat Girl.
We had a packed schedule that included two Halloween house parties, kids in costume, trick or treating and lots of candy! On the day of Halloween we went to my sister's annual church friends Halloween party. I will say that Will and I might have been the only two adults dressed up - even though my sister insisted that the adults all dressed up in the past...likely story. But we were happy to be in costume with my nieces nonetheless.
After eating a lot of the food at the party we ventured out into what turned out to be a very well decorated neighborhood to trick or treat. My nieces were trick or treating machines - filling up their buckets with lighting speed. My youngest niece couldn't even carry her candy bucket by the end of the night because it was too heavy. It was so fun to be a part of their excitement running around from house to house and getting candy. Oh and every time my nieces would get candy, they would get an extra piece for Will as well. I'm not sure how he got them to do his bidding. Luckily his minion costume came with a front pouch where he stashed all his candy.
The day after Halloween we went to another Halloween party. This one was hosted by one of the parents of my niece's classmates. Who would have thought
, this party again involved lots of eating and kids running around in costume. I think I definitely gained a few lbs after this weekend.
All in all, I'm so happy that I got to experience Halloween with my nieces this year, it made me enjoy the holiday much more. Hope you all had a Happy Halloween! Would love to know what you and your kids dressed up as.
