Last week Will and I took a romantic Valentine's trip to Maui, Hawaii with Will's sister and his dad. Hahaha! Ok so it was more like a family vacation that happened to cross over on Valentine's Day. It actually was a great time - filled with sun, sand, surf and of course sunblock! And I must say it timed perfectly against the zero degree temps on the East Coast. Check out some of the highlights from our trip.

A few weeks ago we began our "Ingredient Truths" series and talked about parabens. In my post on parabens I mentioned that parabens could be hidden within the ingredient "fragrance" (aka "parfum"). This week I wanted to provide more information on this ingredient for you - what is Fragrance, should you be concerned and how do you look out for it.

We love the sun at Block Island Organics but we are all about playing smart and safe in the sun. The sun is powerful, protection from it is important and there are numerous studies proving that sunscreen prevents skin cancer and skin aging. In our latest suncare smarts series we discuss a new study that reveals plants make their own "sunscreen". Yes even plants need protection from the sun just like you and me.

Will and I are back from our whirlwind holiday travels. We hit up three families, ate lots of food and perfected our tennis game (not really but we got to play tennis after a three year hiatus from the sport). Luckily our travels were within the tri-state area and we were happy to spend quality time with our families.

Are you all still stuffed from Thanksgiving? I still am - I've been eating leftovers for four days straight! But then that's the beauty of Thanksgiving, lots of food, family and friends (oh and shopping if you braved the Black Friday sales). This year Will and I spent Thanksgiving at my parent's house. My sister, my nieces and my brother-in-law stayed with my parents as well. Needless to say it was a full house.

Winter is almost here in New England and while half of me wants to stay indoors all season, I know there are a ton of cold weather activities that will get me excited. They just require a little bit more clothing, sunscreen (yes you need sunscreen even in the winter) and some hot cocoa. Everyone knows the usual winter sports like skiing, snowboarding and ice skating - all are awesome and snowboarding is one of my favorites. But what if you want something off the beaten path?
