One of my favorite activities in life takes place in the winter - snowboarding. Snowboarding and dancing are my two all time loves. I live for the smell of crisp mountain air, the rush of shredding down a hill and ending the day with hot cocoa by the fire. Of course a long day on the mountain can be brutal on the skin - so I've put together this quick hit list to keep your skin safe and protected on the slopes.

I just read some fantastic news that I had to share - researchers recently discovered a new blood testing method that tracks metastatic melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer. I'm hoping this means they could detect and treat melanoma earlier. This remains to be seen, but wouldn't it be great!

The New Year is always a good time to kick start healthy habits for you and your skin. Thus it's perfect timing that the US Government released their latest "Dietary Guidelines For Americans 2015-2020". The guide provides recommended healthy dietary information and eating patterns. To start 2016 off right we're offering healthy eating tips from the guide to help you look and feel your best.

Recently at a party I overheard a friend say they needed to head to a tanning salon to get some winter color. It almost gave me a heart attack. Ok, I may be exaggerating but my heart really did break. Hearing someone say that might be the worst thing I could hear and more importantly, it's one of the worst things you can do for your skin. It causes premature aging and even skin cancer. Just say NO to indoor tanning!

Say what you want about the Kardashian-Jenner family but one thing they believe in is sunscreen and I have to give them a thumbs up for that. At least this week I'm a fan because they have come out once again in support of sunblock.

Recently both Vogue and Harper's Bazaar touted the benefits of sunscreen as THE year-round anti-aging weapon. This was in addition to Women's Health and Yahoo Beauty calling sunscreen the #1 most effective wrinkle-fighting treatment. I especially love it when the high fashion magazines promote the benefits of sunblock. It means a lot because even though I may not agree, these magazines are often seen as the bible on all things fashion, beauty and skin care.
