Discovering Block Island: Block Island Race Week

by Will / June, 24 2015 01:30
This week is the 50th Anniversary of Block Island Race Week and the latest in our Discovering Block Island series. Race Week goes all the way back to 1965 and this year brings 2000 sailors and 169 boats to the weeklong race. A big boon for the little island we love, it's held biennially in odd numbered years (the next one will be 2017) making it all that much more special. The Storm Trysail Club puts on the event and raises money for charity too (over $100,000 to date for local charities). There's a ton of info over at BlockIslandRaceWeek.com. Just a great event overall. Of course, if you plan on attending make sure to bring sunscreen! [More]

Discovering Block Island: How to Get There - Planes, Trains, (Ferries) & Automobiles

by Will / June, 3 2015 01:30
There are a ton of things to do on Block Island (check out our Discovering Block Island series) but the fist step is getting there. Given it's an island, at some point a plane or a ferry will be involved and there are a surprising amount of options for such a small place. I actually find getting there part of the fun. It's a quintessential New England experience without all the hubbub of Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. [More]

Spring Forward - 5 Things I Can't Wait For

by kelly / March, 4 2015 01:30
It's March and it's still so cold! Last year was brutal and the winter extended way beyond it's welcome. Now I don't hate winter and I do love snow but I'm definitely ready for the season to turn. I can't wait for spring to come along. Because I just need to indulge and dream of warmer temps, I decided to put a list together of five things I'm looking forward to [More]

Sunny Travels: The Fam Hits Hawaii!

by kelly / February, 25 2015 01:30
Last week Will and I took a romantic Valentine's trip to Maui, Hawaii with Will's sister and his dad. Hahaha! Ok so it was more like a family vacation that happened to cross over on Valentine's Day. It actually was a great time - filled with sun, sand, surf and of course sunblock! And I must say it timed perfectly against the zero degree temps on the East Coast. Check out some of the highlights from our trip. [More]

Sunny Travels: Holidays with Family

by kelly / January, 7 2015 01:30
Will and I are back from our whirlwind holiday travels. We hit up three families, ate lots of food and perfected our tennis game (not really but we got to play tennis after a three year hiatus from the sport). Luckily our travels were within the tri-state area and we were happy to spend quality time with our families. [More]

Sunny Travels: Thanksgiving in New York

by kelly / December, 3 2014 01:30
Are you all still stuffed from Thanksgiving? I still am - I've been eating leftovers for four days straight! But then that's the beauty of Thanksgiving, lots of food, family and friends (oh and shopping if you braved the Black Friday sales). This year Will and I spent Thanksgiving at my parent's house. My sister, my nieces and my brother-in-law stayed with my parents as well. Needless to say it was a full house. [More]

Sunny Travels: Uncle Will and Aunt Kelly do Halloween with the Nieces

by kelly / November, 5 2014 01:30
This weekend I felt like a kid again. I got to trick or treat for the first time in almost 20 years! Now don't go trying to calculate my age, my young looks do to years of sunscreen use will deceive you. Ha! Will and I visited my sister, brother-in-law and three nieces for Halloween. It was the most fun Halloween I've had in a long time. [More]

Sunny Travels: Palm Springs, California

by kelly / September, 24 2014 01:30
Our Block Island Organics sunny travel adventures continued over Labor Day weekend with a trip to Palm Springs, California. Yes we packed in two trips at the end of the summer. I'm thankful that we got to experience another great destination although it was hot! The average temperature in Palm Springs in the summer is around 110 degrees. The heat is no joke! That's because Palm Springs is located in the desert within the Coachella Valley (yes where the famous music festival takes place that bears that same name) about 100+ miles east of Los Angeles. But we were able to still enjoy our time in Palm Springs and work around the weather. With our sunscreen packed, and you needed lots of it, we headed to sunny Palm Springs! [More]

Sunny Travels: Miami Beach, St. Martin and Anguilla

by kelly / September, 3 2014 01:30
It's officially the end of summer. I know, it makes me sad as well. Of course just because the summer is over, doesn't mean you should stop wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen should be worn year round. Sorry for the plug, but you know I had to. Anyway, I hope you all got in some sunny travels this summer. We sure did at Block Island Organics. This summer Will and I got to attend the wedding of my college friend. It was a destination wedding in St. Martin, an island in the Caribbean. The wedding was amazing and the location beautiful. I also go to spend quality time reminiscing and bonding with my college friends, something we haven't all done together in about 10 years. [More]

Discovering Block Island - A Beach Paradise

by Will / August, 20 2014 01:30
17 miles of beaches, 17 miles on an island with a year round population just over 1,000 and a land area just under 10 square miles. That's a lot of beaches and one of the many things that makes Block Island so special. Plus you can find just about any kind of beach you like. Broad sandy beaches, rocky nooks and crannies, majestic bluffs, lonely stretches of sand or actives swaths with people, volleyball nets and plenty of waves. It's all there for you just 13 miles off the coast of Rhode Island and all free. [More]
