Yes I'm going to say that these donuts on Block Island are the best you'll ever eat. I can confidently say this as a donut expert - my parents actually owned a Dunkin Donuts growing up - so I've had my fair share of donuts. Where can you get these marvelous little wonders? At Payne's Donuts aka the home of "Killer Donuts" on Block Island. [More]

Discovering Block Island: Clamming in the Great Salt Pond

by Will / June, 1 2016 01:30
One of my absolute favorite things to do on Block Island is to go clamming. What do you do? Simple, dig up some fresh clams to eat...they taste so good. Nothing beats a fresh clam you caught that day. Plus clamming is not only fun but also a great family activity. From toddlers to great grandparents it’s an easy and rewarding activity for everyone. Discovering Block Island: The Flying Chinese Food Delivery Service

by Will / September, 2 2015 01:30
Block Island is a small place, it's just 7 miles long and 3 miles wide. Despite this it does have a bustling town with many restaurants (over 50), bars and shops. Of course, at such a small size it can't cover every cuisine and that's where New England Airline's take-out food delivery comes in. Yup, they'll deliver your take-out order via plane. Whether it's Chinese food, sushi, pizza or something else entirely, New England Airlines is game. [More]

Discovering Block Island: America's First Offshore Wind Farm

by Will / August, 12 2015 01:30
Our Discovering Block Island series showcases interesting things about the island and we think this definitely qualifies. It turns out Block Island is set to become the site of America's first offshore wind farm. My first thought - it's surprising we haven't seen one in the United States before. Apparently they are pretty common in Europe but none have made it here yet. Now some folks are for the wind farm and some are against it. Both financial and environmental cases can be made on either side of the project. Personally have a neutral stance. We can see why it could be good and also understand why it raises concerns. [More]

Discovering Block Island: Block Island Race Week

by Will / June, 24 2015 01:30
This week is the 50th Anniversary of Block Island Race Week and the latest in our Discovering Block Island series. Race Week goes all the way back to 1965 and this year brings 2000 sailors and 169 boats to the weeklong race. A big boon for the little island we love, it's held biennially in odd numbered years (the next one will be 2017) making it all that much more special. The Storm Trysail Club puts on the event and raises money for charity too (over $100,000 to date for local charities). There's a ton of info over at BlockIslandRaceWeek.com. Just a great event overall. Of course, if you plan on attending make sure to bring sunscreen! [More]

Discovering Block Island: How to Get There - Planes, Trains, (Ferries) & Automobiles

by Will / June, 3 2015 01:30
There are a ton of things to do on Block Island (check out our Discovering Block Island series) but the fist step is getting there. Given it's an island, at some point a plane or a ferry will be involved and there are a surprising amount of options for such a small place. I actually find getting there part of the fun. It's a quintessential New England experience without all the hubbub of Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. [More]
